Stories, content and making people heard

divya@visably.org.uk

I came up through journalism – an MA in English from Cambridge, then a postgraduate diploma in journalism sponsored by The Guardian Media Group. I spent years writing about the world. At some point I started asking whether I could use those same skills to help change it. Moving into charity communications was the answer to that question, and I haven't looked back.

At Visably I create content across our digital channels, with a particular focus on developing case studies – working closely with people living with sight loss to share their experiences in ways that are authentic, accessible and true to who they are. It's the part of the job that matters most. Being trusted with someone's story is a privilege I take seriously.

What I didn't anticipate when I joined was how much I'd fall for the world of audio. Spending time with people who experience so much of life through listening has completely changed how I think about it. I've developed, in recent years, what I can only describe as a genuine love affair with sound.

Outside of work, I'm a trained yoga and meditation teacher and a published author. I love walking, writing and the kind of quiet that lets you actually hear what's going on around you. It turns out that's excellent preparation for working somewhere built on the power of listening.
