Leadership and our transformation

sophie@visably.org.uk

Before Visably, I worked in sales and event management, and I'm also a qualified counsellor, with a particular focus on supporting young people. Those two threads run through everything I do: understanding what motivates people and how to connect them with the right support.

Since becoming CEO, I've launched a new transformation strategy for Visably. At its heart, it's all about listening – diving deep into what people living with sight loss genuinely want and need from us today, and using that to shape a service that reflects their real lives rather than our assumptions about them.

I've always believed in the power of volunteering. During my years in service delivery, I built a strong network of volunteers that helped us reach far more people than we could alone. That spirit of community is something I want to keep at the very centre of how Visably operates.

What drives me, every single day, is this: independence isn't a luxury – it's something everyone deserves. Giving people the tools to stay connected and live life on their own terms is why this work matters.

Outside of work, I'm a busy single mum to my two sons, keeper of three cats and one very lively dog.  I volunteer with a local domestic violence shelter and my local football club. When I'm not doing any of the above, you'll find me at the gym, out on a hike, hunting for treasures in vintage shops, or getting lost in a good book.
