Sam Ralfe

I came to Visably with two things that don't always come together: professional experience and lived experience. I have vision impairment myself, and I'm also a parent to a child with a vision impairment. That dual perspective – knowing the system from the inside as both a professional and as someone navigating it for their own family – shapes everything about how I approach this work. 

I've spent over 15 years in the sight loss sector, supporting children, young people and families across advocacy, accessibility and direct support roles. I've developed awareness sessions, built accessible resources and helped organisations understand what genuine inclusion actually looks like in practice, not just in policy. 

At Visably, I coordinate our volunteer-led projects and partnerships. That means supporting volunteers, building connections with individuals, communities and organisations, and contributing to the systems and processes that help our work reach more people, more effectively. The detail matters to me. Accessible documents, clear processes, the right person in the right place at the right time — those things add up. 

A good day is one where I know something I've worked on has made things easier for someone. It doesn't have to be big. Improving a document, supporting a volunteer to deliver something well, nudging a project forward… I like knowing the work is actually landing. 

Outside of work, I create social media content to raise awareness of sight loss and accessibility, because the more people understand, the easier life gets for the people we support. I also love writing and spending time with my family and animals.
