I'll be honest: I didn't come to Visably because I was a sight loss specialist. I came because I wanted to work somewhere I could feel I was making a difference — not just ticking boxes. This is my first role in a charity, and I haven't looked back.

I have more than 15 years of experience helping organisations run smoothly — mostly schools and Multi Academy Trusts across the West Midlands, where I developed a specialism in governance, compliance and policy. Now I bring that to Visably, supporting Sophie as her right-hand person so she can focus on leading the charity forward.

My job isn't front-facing or glamorous. I'm the person in the background — making sure the right things happen at the right time, that our governance is sound, our policies are solid and that nothing falls through the cracks. I think of myself as someone who enables others to do what they do best. At a small charity like Visably, that matters more than it might sound.

One thing working here has reinforced for me is how much of everyday life is quietly structured around fully sighted people. It's something most of us never think about. Being at Visably makes you think about it.

Outside of work, I'm kept on my toes by my two daughters and Tilly, our scruffy mixed-breed terrier. My favourite family memories involve the Lakes, riding round Center Parcs and hunting for crabs in Welsh rock pools. When the weather has other ideas, I'm very happy with a film, a book or a good series.
