Alex Froom

I've spent over two decades building digital consumer products, leading digital strategies and software builds for global brands and major public initiatives, including the London 2012 Olympics. For the past decade I've been running Journey Alerts, a travel service built on a simple principle: no app, no fee, no barriers. Along the way I've designed and managed R&D programmes in accessible technology, including partnerships with Meta, Uber, Google and Amazon.

What I've learned, across all of it, is that the barriers people face aren't usually technical; they're decisions. Choices made by designers and developers who didn't ask the right questions, or didn't ask them of the right people. I believe technology should be an invisible enabler, not an additional obstacle. For people living with sight loss, as the world becomes digital by default, that gap between what technology could do and what it actually does for them is urgent and widening.

That's why Visably's work is critical, and why I wanted to be part of it. I hope to bring the Board strategic oversight on current and emerging technology, including AI, and to open doors to R&D collaborations and partnerships that help Visably stay at the frontier of what's possible for its community.

Outside of work, a career in digital means I try to unwind with something more tangible. I'm currently building a car with my seven-year-old daughter. Unfortunately it won't start. Neither of us is ready to admit defeat.
