Independence through tech: our AI glasses project

When it comes to tech, we always ask, “what's next?” AI, smart devices and voice control have changed what tech means to people living with sight loss.

Often, today’s mainstream tech can offer so much more to someone with sight loss than the specialised tech of the past could. But our research found that cost remains a barrier and confidence can be a limit—particularly for older people or people who have lost their sight more recently.

That’s why we’re always looking to connect people with the best tech of their time. In partnership with Liverpool-based sight loss charity Bradbury Fields, we have taken the first steps towards offering AI-powered smart glasses to our community.

Turning tech into independence: the power of AI glasses for sight loss

Our focus group of people living with sight loss unanimously described smart glasses as “essential” for their community today.

Yvonne, described how, aged 71, the technology had “completely changed [her] life.” For her, it was a route back to the things she once took for granted.

Following our focus group with Bradbury Fields, we are currently exploring new partnerships and funding to ensure the undeniable benefits of this tech reach more members of our community in the years ahead.
