There’s a place for you at Visably
Piloting in Liverpool and Birmingham, our enriched service offer brings together free devices, practical help from trained volunteers and opportunities to learn alongside other people living with sight loss.
Wherever you are on your sight loss tech journey, whatever the obstacle, there's a place for you at Visably.
Listening to what you need
Our new services started by listening to people living with sight loss told us they want. Last year we carried out independent research with more than 400 people living with sight loss. The findings revealed possibilities and the barriers.
Eighty-five per cent of the people our researchers spoke to said tech boosted their mental health. At its best, tech opens up a whole world. It’s a call to a faraway loved one, listening to the morning news, maths homework aced. But too many people still say that cost and confidence stand in their way.
When asked what would help, 52 per cent of people said they preferred support shaped around them – delivered in person or one to one – to manuals, general resources or remote helplines.
Side-by-side on your tech journey
Starting in Liverpool and Birmingham before rolling out in other parts of the country, our pilot project will provide:
- free tech matched to a person’s needs
- support with tech problems
- confidence building
- hands-on help from volunteers
- community-based tech peer support groups
- accessible information and resources to help you use tech
You might be looking for help with a particular problem, wondering which device could suit you, or hoping to meet others on a similar journey. Whatever you need, we’re here to help you learn, adapt and take control.
Get involved
Our pilot support offer is available for people living with sight loss in Liverpool and Birmingham. If you live in either city, tell us what support you’re looking for using our online form. We’ll be in touch to take it from there.
We’re a small charity with a big heart and an even bigger community beside us. We exist to get the right tech into the hands of people who need it and stay until it clicks, growing confidence, connection and independence. If you want to help make our vision a reality, could you lend some of your time as a volunteer? Find out more about how you can be part of the sight loss tech team.
